Production
INTRODUCTION
Film Jersey was created to showcase the island as a shooting destination for overseas film, television, video and photographic production companies. The island’s unspoiled landscapes, lanes, castles, forts and beaches and its proximity to the UK and France offer unique opportunities to the creative visual industries.
Its main purpose is to offer support and guidance to companies wishing to shoot on the island; coordinating locations, permits, accommodation and as a liaison with government, parishes and emergency services.
Jersey is a British Crown Dependency, though for the purposes of filming it should be noted that Jersey is not part of the United Kingdom regardless of the fact that is part of the British Isles. While not a member of the European Union, a special relationship is in place for the purposes of trade.
Jersey has its own political and constitutional independence.

CUSTOMS AND IMMIGRATION
You do not need a work permit to work in Jersey if you are British, from a Member State of the European Union or European Economic Area.
Other nationalities may require visas as well as work permits. The processing time for work permit applications is currently 3-4 weeks. You will need to leave sufficient time for a work permit to be issued before arriving on the Island.

LOCAL TAX
This will entirely depend on where the production company is based. Jersey has double taxation agreements in place with a number of countries.
Production staff working in Jersey would therefore not be liable for tax or social security payments on the island on the condition that the production company is based in one of these countries.
There will of course always be exceptions and we suggest that the production accountant contacts the local tax office for more information.
Productions should also be aware that Jersey is not liable for British VAT at 20%.
Substantial savings could therefore be made on the hire of any equipment, vehicles etc. being hired in from the mainland by letting a local company bring everything onto the island on the production’s behalf.
EMERGENCY SERVICES
States of Jersey Police
As a courtesy, the States of Jersey Police should be informed at least 6 weeks in advance of any filming on the island. In addition, they would need specific information if the production planned to use firearms, explosives or pyrotechnics of any sort. The use of firearms would require permits which can be obtained from the Firearms Registrar.
Jersey Fire and Rescue Service
As a courtesy, Jersey Fire & Rescue should be informed at least 6 weeks in advance of any filming on the island. In addition, they would need specific information if the production planned to use fire, smoke, pyrotechnics, firearms or any other special effect that could cause concern to the public.

States of Jersey Ambulance Service
Should the production bring its own Paramedics, they would need to be registered with the Health Professions Council in the UK and also registered in Jersey with the Public Health Department. Under the Health Care (Registration) (Jersey) Law 1995 they are not allowed to practice any advance skills until they are registered. Nurses would also have to be registered with the Public Health Department as would Doctors before they’d be allowed to practice.
There are also Laws which might prevent them bringing their own medical drugs into the Island and the use of strong analgesics would need the sign-off of the Chief Ambulance Officer.

TRAVEL
Whilst a passport is not required for travel to Jersey from the UK, photo ID will be required to clear Customs and Immigration Control. Non-EU residents may require a valid work permit.
There is no longer a Reciprocal Health Agreement between Jersey and the UK; all visitors to the island are strongly advised to take out Personal Travel and Health Insurance.

Please be aware that there are restrictions on the importation of swords, firearms, ammunition, pyrotechnics and compressed gases on ferries to Jersey as well as weight and height restrictions on vehicles. If you intend to travel with any of the above items please make direct contact with the ferry company before the day of travel.
INSIDE COVER
At present there is no dedicated studio space on the island. We are hoping for this to change in the not too distant future and will update accordingly. There are a number of spaces that could quite easily convert for the purpose of cover, large halls to small stage areas depending on requirements.
Fort Regent
Fort Regent is a non-residential venue built on the site of a Napoleonic fortress overlooking St Helier. Venue facilities include two multipurpose halls:

- Gloucester Hall (rectangular) 1,205m2
Jersey Arts Centre
The Benjamin Meaker is a non-flying house, but some simple flying is possible. The steel grid encompasses the full depth of the stage and the full width of the acting area. The acoustics are designed for the spoken voice. This gives a clear, but dry, sound that carries easily across the auditorium.

Jersey Opera House
The Jersey Opera House is a traditional Edwardian horseshoe style auditorium with a curved proscenium arch and seating 620 people on three levels; Stalls, Dress Circle and Upper Circle. Public access is via the Box Office entrance in Gloucester Street while stage door and Scene Dock door are situated in Seaton Place.
